The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) reported that NATO has secured a €200 million acquisition for 120mm tank rounds through its purchasing arm. This move is part of a broader initiative to replenish Allied reserves and bolster its deterrent capabilities.
Granted to Rheinmetall within a collaborative international structure, this agreement assists various member nations in restoring vital Land Battle Decisive Munition inventories, the agency confirmed.
This procurement was facilitated by the Munitions Assistance Collaboration, enabling involved countries to consolidate their requirements and collectively obtain ordnance. This mechanism accelerates procurement and diminishes expenses while simultaneously conveying an explicit message to manufacturers, as declared by the agency.
“We require enhanced defense manufacturing. We need both volume and excellence. And we need it expeditiously,” remarked NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte after a gathering of Defence Ministers in February.
The NSPA indicated that through uniting international requirements, member states are prompting manufacturers to enlarge manufacturing capabilities and reinforce logistical networks. This collaboration aims to achieve both immediate inventory restoration and enduring industrial robustness.
This accord is based upon a succession of foundational agreements concluded in 2025, encompassing the entire spectrum of 120mm munitions for key NATO armored vehicle systems. This enables nations to submit requisitions with greater speed via a consolidated mechanism.
“Via the Munitions Assistance Collaboration, member nations are conveying a long-term, collective requirement indication to manufacturers,” stated the NSPA General Manager, further explaining that this strategy aims to guarantee military personnel possess the ordnance necessary for sustained preparedness.
