Today, Real Madrid received a €15,000 penalty and a conditional temporary stadium section shutdown after a supporter was observed making a Nazi-style gesture before last week’s Champions League match versus Benfica.
The individual was captured on video performing the action and subsequently ejected by security personnel ahead of Madrid’s 2-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, a result which finalized a 3-1 total win and advanced them to a last-16 encounter with Manchester City.
“Real Madrid denounces such gestures and displays which provoke aggression and animosity in athletics and the community,” the team commented at that moment.
The temporary stadium section shutdown applies to 500 seating places within the lower southern tribune for a single UEFA club match; however, its implementation is deferred for twelve months.
A last-minute goal by Vinicius Jr secured the victory; he claimed he suffered racial insults from Benfica’s Guanluca Prestianni during the initial match in Lisbon on February 17th.
The Argentine attacker, Prestianni, who refutes all accusations, was absent from the Bernabeu encounter owing to a temporary UEFA prohibition.
This evening, Madrid will be competing in La Liga as they visit Celta Vigo.
