CHARLOTTE, N.C. — LaMelo Ball, the Charlotte Hornets’ point guard, sustained no injuries following a two-vehicle collision in central Charlotte on Wednesday, as stated by an individual apprised of the circumstances.
The person informed The Associated Press, under the agreement of remaining unnamed, as they lacked official permission to disclose the particulars of the incident.
A police report had not been promptly released.
Ball seemed to be traversing a crossroads when his bespoke, camouflage-hued Hummer impacted a different automobile just prior to 5 o’clock in the afternoon, as per footage acquired by WSOC-TV in Charlotte. The broadcast outlet subsequently shared a clip depicting Ball, clad in a teal Hornets hooded sweatshirt, exiting his SUV and entering another car prior to his departure by road. Law enforcement officials were present at the location concurrently.
No details emerged regarding the individual in the other car implicated in the impact; however, footage illustrated that motorist serenely disembarking from his vehicle and proceeding to approach Ball’s SUV. The visual evidence revealed that the left front wheel of Ball’s SUV was absent.
The Hornets conducted a training session earlier that day.
Charlotte, currently boasting victories in 10 of its last 11 contests, is slated to welcome the Houston Rockets this Thursday evening as teams resume play after the All-Star hiatus.
Ball represents the most recent professional athlete to participate in an automobile accident within Charlotte.
Cam Newton, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback, sustained a spinal fracture during a 2014 incident where his black utility truck overturned adjacent to Bank of America Stadium, under a mile from the site of Ball’s impact.
In 2024, Andy Dalton, the present Panthers backup quarterback, sustained a thumb injury during his involvement in a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte.
