Myles Garrett, the incumbent NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Cleveland Browns defensive end, received a citation for excessive speed last month after being recorded traveling at 94 mph in a 70 mph zone on a Northeast Ohio highway, as per judicial documents.
This marks Garrett’s ninth traffic violation for excessive speed since his debut in the league in 2017.
Garrett was stopped by authorities at 1:35 a.m. on Feb. 21 in Wooster, Ohio, per official documents. He was assigned a hearing date for the upcoming Tuesday but is not required to attend if he remits the penalty.
In August of the previous year, Garrett was issued a citation for exceeding the speed limit in a Cleveland suburb after being recorded traveling at 100 mph in a 60 mph zone.
In 2022, Garrett was cited for “failure to control his motor vehicle” following a solo vehicle collision that resulted in him sustaining a left shoulder sprain and right biceps strain after his vehicle departed the roadway and overturned. As stated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Garrett was operating at a speed of 65 mph on a thoroughfare with a 45 mph maximum permissible speed — deemed a “hazardous velocity for the nature of the thoroughfare” he was on — according to the crash report procured by ESPN.
