Body camera footage made public on Thursday revealed Tiger Woods’ surprise upon being restrained after his automobile crash last week in Florida.
Following an impairment assessment administered to the athlete, Martin County Sheriff’s deputy Tatiana Levenar informed Woods, “It’s my belief that your usual abilities are compromised, and you’re influenced by an unidentified substance; consequently, you are now apprehended for driving under the influence.”
Woods reported that he had been gazing at his mobile device and adjusting the car’s audio channel when his rapidly moving Land Rover struck the rear of a truck and overturned on a street in a populated area on Jupiter Island.
As he stood beside the thoroughfare, Woods questioned, “Am I being taken into custody?”
Levenar affirmed, “Yes, sir.”
Moreover, the recording indicates that authorities discovered tablets within Woods’ apparel following the collision.
After an official retrieved two pale tablets, Woods stated, “That’s a Norco,” identifying it as an analgesic that comprises acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Officials subsequently verified that Woods possessed hydrocodone.
Within the body camera recording, Woods informed Levenar that he had consumed no alcoholic beverages and had ingested “a handful” of medicines earlier that day; however, Woods’ statements are suppressed in the publicly available video as he elucidates some of the substances.
Woods submitted a plea of innocence on Tuesday regarding the charge of impaired driving. On Tuesday evening, he released an announcement declaring that he would withdraw for an unspecified period “to pursue therapy and prioritize my well-being.”
