The WNBA and WNBPA reached an accord for player free agency to commence on Monday, as stated by the league on Sunday evening.
The window for designations, encompassing the dispatch of qualifying bids and the identification of core players, is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Discussions are set to occur from Wednesday to Friday, with player contracts being finalized starting Saturday.
The WNBA’s annual draft event is slated for April 13.
The WNBA and WNBPA reached an oral consensus on the stipulations of a fresh collective bargaining agreement on March 18. Both parties formally endorsed the conditions seven days subsequently; however, the comprehensive official document remains under preparation.
More than a hundred athletes qualify as free agents and are poised to gain from the substantial pay increases outlined in the recent accord.
Practice camps are slated to commence on April 19, followed by exhibition matches on April 25. The regular season’s inaugural day is scheduled for May 8.
