Nearly precisely a year has passed since Trevor Milton, the originator of the currently insolvent electric vehicle venture, Nikola, was granted clemency by then-President Trump. The Wall Street Journal has now unveiled an initial in-depth examination of Milton’s latest endeavor: his attempts to construct self-governing aircraft.

Late last year, Milton, alongside an “investment collective,” acquired a struggling aerospace firm known as SyberJet Aircraft, and he has since dedicated his efforts to revitalizing the enterprise. This endeavor, as per the published account, includes enlisting “scores” of ex-Nikola personnel, seeking potential financiers from Saudi Arabia, and allocating several hundred thousand dollars towards advocacy efforts.

Reports indicate his ambition to engineer a completely novel avionics framework from scratch, aimed at enabling the firm to develop the “inaugural light jet centered on artificial-intelligence-driven flight,” a development potentially paving the way for lucrative defense agreements. Nonetheless, Milton, who faced a fraud conviction in 2022, conveyed to the publication his belief that aircraft development will prove “tenfold more challenging than Nikola ever became.”
