However, no bicycle is flawless. Let’s pause briefly to discuss the Rev 2’s substantial weight of 60 pounds—a considerable amount for a conventional pedal bike. For an electric bicycle, though, it registers as quite typical. Oddly, the sheer enjoyment I derived from riding the Judd Rev 2 made it feel lighter than numerous similarly ponderous e-bikes.
While I certainly appreciate a 20-inch wheel, it appears ill-suited for a commuter, particularly when one is navigating an urban environment. Given that most American cities are riddled with potholes, the 20-inch wheels, encased in 2.1-inch-wide tires, seem a bit insufficient. (This is, in part, a matter of individual preference, as editor Adrienne So’s own electric bicycle features 20-inch wheels.)
Do not misunderstand me! My journey never felt harsh or unstable—quite the contrary. The Judd Rev 2 delivers a remarkably smooth ride. Nevertheless, I reside in a verdant university town boasting impeccably maintained greenways, abundant cycling paths (though, truth be told, we could always use more), and a plenitude of comparatively smooth thoroughfares. I would simply prefer a slightly larger wheel, especially if I were traversing a cityscape. Despite these considerations, it is considerably simpler to engineer a folding bike with a smaller wheel than with a more substantial one. Can you imagine attempting to piece together a 29-er just to stow it in your wardrobe?
