During the New York International Auto Show held on Wednesday, Kia disclosed that its smaller electric SUV, designated the EV3, is slated for release in the US by “late 2026.” This model has been accessible in international markets since 2024, having debuted in South Korea and Europe. The EV3’s 2027 iteration, expected for the US market, seemingly retains the marginally angular aesthetic of the existing 2026 version. Furthermore, it appears Kia has refreshed the central console, discarding the widely criticized “chopping board” armrest present in the initial concept. An additional offering for the North American variant will be a new lustrous black “Nightfall” aesthetic package.
The EV3 will be offered in both a conventional and an extended-range setup, providing capacities of 220 and 320 miles per full charge, correspondingly. Variants equipped with the more substantial long-range battery will additionally feature an all-wheel-drive capability. Kia states that the EV3’s DC rapid charging system is capable of replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 percent in merely 29 minutes for the standard model, or 31 minutes for the extended-range version.
Furthermore, the EV3 incorporates Kia’s i-Pedal 3.0 system, empowering motorists to manage their velocity solely through the accelerator pedal. This i-Pedal function can be engaged or disengaged via controls situated on the steering wheel. Internally, the EV3 showcases a wide dashboard screen arrangement, comprising two 12.3-inch screens, complemented by a 5-inch display for climate control.
Moreover, the EV3 is equipped with several functionalities that enable users to supply power to various external gadgets, specifically Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Home (V2H). V2H, contingent upon the installation of a Wallbox bidirectional charging infrastructure, permits owners to energize portions of their dwelling using the EV3. Should a power recovery unit be in place, V2H can even function as an emergency power source during electricity interruptions.
Kia intends to disclose the pricing for the US variant of the EV3 nearer its debut later this year, with the aim for it to be quite economical. Nevertheless, the discontinuation of electric vehicle tax incentives in the previous year might present a greater hurdle to achieving affordability compared to its initial unveiling in 2023.
