The Dallas Stars declared on Monday that they have permanently prohibited the spectator who acquired the entry passes, following a probe into what appeared to be a discriminatory gesture during a game in December.

The individual was banned after the American Airlines Center initiated an inquiry concerning four Dallas Stars fans who seemed to persistently elevate and extend their right arms with a straightened right hand pointing downwards.

The investigation began after a 12-second segment from the Stars’ 5-1 victory on Dec. 21 against the Toronto Maple Leafs was widely circulated last week across numerous social media platforms.

“We located and conversed with the person who acquired the tickets and will be permanently excluding that individual from the American Airlines Center,” the Stars stated in an official communication given to ESPN. “Furthermore, we are enhancing on-premise communications concerning the Spectator Guidelines and methods for our supporters to report infractions, along with emphasizing personnel education to detect and manage emerging scenarios.”

“No form of prejudiced or hostile conduct shall be condoned and is unacceptable within our venue. Establishing and maintaining settings that promote inclusivity, security, and deference is a fundamental requirement for the Dallas Stars.”

The American Airlines Center affirmed in a declaration issued last week that it had “absolute intolerance for any instances of animosity or prejudice.” A Stars representative further informed ESPN that the team was “completely in agreement” with the arena’s statement and collaborating with them to ascertain the facts.

Establishing a more prominent location for their on-site communications regarding the Spectator Guidelines aligns with what has evolved into a standard procedure across the entire National Hockey League.

Each National Hockey League team, within its pre-match protocol, includes a prepared announcement that educates spectators on their distinct behavioral guidelines and the repercussions associated with prospective infractions.

The National Hockey League additionally maintains a Spectator Guidelines document that is structured into four distinct categories: Respect, Inclusion, Safety and Empowerment.

The Inclusion category declares that verbalizations, physical signs, and demeanor, alongside other modes of individual articulation, that disparage a particular race, ethnic origin, gender/gender identity, sexual preference, faith, disability condition, or other identity-linked attribute shall “not be condoned.”

The National Hockey League declares that any individual found to have participated in actions conflicting with the principles of the league, its teams, and/or its athletes shall “face sanctions, comprising but not confined to: potential seating reassignment, removal, temporary exclusion, and/or a perpetual prohibition from subsequent NHL occurrences,” as outlined in the Inclusion category of the league’s Spectator Guidelines.
