The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s eagerly awaited spectacle, hosted at the White House, is set to showcase a lightweight championship bout between reigning titleholder Ilia Topuria and provisional champion Justin Gaethje.
Officials from the Ultimate Fighting Championship disclosed the headline bout during the UFC 326 telecast this past Saturday. The card, which the organization has named UFC Freedom Fights 250, is slated for June 14. This chosen date aligns with the 80th birthday of U.S. President Donald Trump and additionally serves to commemorate the quarter-millennium milestone of American Independence Day.
Ilia Topuria (17-0), a 29-year-old Spanish national, holds a dual-division title and is broadly recognized as one of the discipline’s premier power-punchers. He successfully ascended from the featherweight division in the previous June, securing the UFC’s 155-pound championship with a knockout victory in the opening round against Charles Oliveira.
Toward the close of 2025, Topuria declared a temporary break to address private concerns. With these matters now settled, he is prepared for his initial championship defense and, possibly, a subsequent transition to the welterweight class.
Justin Gaethje (27-5), aged 37, will endeavor to protect his home territory and capitalize on his third chance to secure a UFC championship. He competed for the belt in both 2020 and 2022, falling short against legendary figures like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oliveira. He secured the provisional title during Topuria’s hiatus that January, overcoming Paddy Pimblett by a unanimous verdict in Las Vegas.
Gaethje is a dual provisional titleholder and a seasoned competitor with eighteen years in the discipline. He resides and hones his skills in Denver but originated from and grew up in Safford, Arizona, a modest mining settlement.
