France achieved a remarkable 2-1 triumph over Brazil in a captivating international friendly at Gillette Stadium, surmounting a second-half dismissal in a significant victory prior to the World Cup.

The encounter commenced at a brisk pace, with both squads displaying offensive ambition but finding it difficult to fashion definite opportunities during the initial moments.

Brazil initiated the danger first, with Raphinha shooting wide from an opportune spot, while Gabriel Martinelli also narrowly missed with a bending effort. France, meanwhile, appeared threatening in transition, with Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitike testing the Brazilian defensive formation.

The opening goal materialized in the 32nd minute and stemmed from a moment of brilliance. Ousmane Dembele slipped a precisely measured delivery through the defensive line, enabling Mbappe to sprint away before subtly chipping the ball over Ederson.

Brazil retaliated but displayed a deficiency in accuracy within the attacking zone. Vinicius Junior and Martinelli both located openings on the flanks, yet France’s backline guaranteed Mike Maignan remained mostly unthreatened prior to halftime.

The second period ushered in a change in impetus. Brazil commenced vigorously, with replacement player Luiz Henrique infusing dynamism into their offensive efforts and compelling Maignan to make saves.

Upamecano’s Dismissal Complicates Matters for France

However, the pivotal juncture transpired in the 55th minute when Dayot Upamecano was issued a direct dismissal following a VAR assessment for precluding Wesley Franca from a definite goalscoring opportunity.

Playing with a numerical disadvantage, France were anticipated to endure prolonged intensity, and Brazil indeed advanced, seeking a leveling goal.

Nevertheless, contrary to expectations, Les Bleus extended their advantage in the 65th minute. Dembele’s substitute, Michael Olise, delivered a magnificent penetrating pass to send Ekitike clear, who displayed composure to chip a subtle finish over Ederson, making it 2-0.

Notwithstanding being a man down, France thwarted Brazil’s efforts to penetrate their defense. Ibrahima Konate and debutant Maxence Lacroix were exceptionally robust in defense, fending off successive attacks from Brazil.

Brazil ultimately re-entered contention in the 78th minute. Subsequent to a dead ball situation, Casemiro maintained possession of the ball in play within the box, enabling Luiz Henrique to assist Gleison Bremer, who scrambled the ball into the net from a short distance to narrow the gap.

The closing moments were frenzied, with Brazil committing many players to attack, seeking a leveling goal. Vinicius Junior was deeply engaged, surging towards the French backline and generating perilous scenarios, while Bremer almost turned provider with a last-minute delivery that narrowly missed his colleagues inside the box.

France, however, persevered amidst the intensity.
