Currently, the Nuki Smart Lock is recognized as the foremost retrofit smart lock on the market, ideal for individuals seeking a sleek, feature-rich enhancement for their current deadbolt. During the Big Spring Sale, it’s presently available on Amazon for $149, an unprecedented low price. Its rapid unlocking, Matter-over-Thread support, and extensive smart home compatibility captivated my colleague Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, leading her to identify it as the most sophisticated model she’s evaluated in her assessment.
The price progression for the Nuki Smart Lock has been somewhat convoluted. Initially, it debuted at $159.99 when we first assessed it in July 2025. A few months later, the manufacturer escalated the price to $199.99, concurrently addressing some of our primary concerns. Notably, a paid monthly subscription ($5.90) ceased to be a prerequisite for remotely unlocking the Nuki via Wi-Fi or for receiving notifications about lock activity. By acquiring it now, consumers benefit from its lowest-ever price, alongside all the functionalities we had wished were complimentary from the outset.
It’s important to note that a subscription was never a prerequisite to access certain superior features of the Nuki Smart Lock. As previously indicated, it is compatible with a Matter-over-Thread connection. This particular feature is free to utilize (assuming possession of a Matter hub and a Thread border router) and offers considerable battery life extension when contrasted with managing the Nuki Smart Lock exclusively through Wi-Fi.
