These alterations to air travel follow reports that military personnel in Mexico purportedly carried out maneuvers earlier Sunday in Tapalpa, Jalisco. These operations were aimed at apprehending El Mencho, an ex-law enforcement official who rose to command the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, an organization U.S. authorities have recognized as a principal source of fentanyl to the United States.
Public authorities cautioned against confrontations in Jalisco and widespread illicit actions, compelling the U.S. Embassy in Mexico to disseminate stay-at-home warnings for several regions.
A $15 million U.S. reward was placed on El Mencho’s head. He ascended to prominence subsequent to the apprehension of JoaquÃn “El Chapo” Guzmán, the previous leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
