O’Leary Ventures’ Head, Kevin O’Leary, appears on ‘Varney & Co.’ to discuss the outcome of customs duty reimbursements, as well as Generation Z applicants involving their parents in employment interviews.
An increasing number of recruiting managers are observing an unexpected new phenomenon among Gen Z candidates: the involvement of a parent in the job application process, occasionally even during virtual meetings.
Kevin O’Leary, the “Shark Tank” personality, appeared with FOX Business’ Stuart Varney on ‘Varney & Co.’ to offer his perspective on this custom and what it signifies to employers.
‘The Big Money Show’ examines the rising inclination of young adults receiving monetary support from their parents.
For O’Leary, the matter centers on autonomy, rather than solely age-group clichés. He contends that within today’s fierce job arena, companies seek self-reliant applicants capable of independent thought, decision-making, and implementation. The presence of a parent, he states, instantly jeopardizes that perceived autonomy.
“My initial query to the applicant would be, ‘Should I employ your mother or you? What is her purpose here?'” O’Leary declared, “Such a curriculum vitae would be immediately discarded in any of my ventures.”
A panel on ‘The Big Money Show’ responds to recent statistics indicating that while employment for Generation Z has plummeted, elderly laborers are extending their careers.
This occurrence, he stated, took place recently during a remote consultation he conducted.
“It occurred with me during a Zoom call, and I simply articulated, ‘This will not be feasible… Your mother will not participate in this discussion,'” he recalled.

Beyond mere appearances, O’Leary perceives this action as a significant red flag for companies assessing potential liabilities.
“It implies a lack of self-sufficiency… It’s a dreadful indication,” O’Leary asserted, labeling it “a truly disastrous concept.”
