The Ministry of Defence has announced that a Typhoon fighter jet, belonging to the Royal Air Force and deployed from Qatar, successfully intercepted an Iranian drone as it approached Qatari airspace.
An official release from the MOD detailed that the occurrence transpired on 1 March 2026, featuring a Typhoon aircraft from the shared UK–Qatar Typhoon Squadron.
“During 1 March 2026, a Royal Air Force Typhoon, operating out of Qatar as a component of the joint UK–Qatar Typhoon Squadron, effectively neutralized an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle advancing upon Qatari territory.”
The ministry’s account specified that the aircraft was undertaking a protective aerial surveillance mission at that moment, intercepting the drone with an air-to-air missile.
“The Typhoon fighter aircraft, engaged in a defensive aerial patrol, deployed an air-to-air missile to neutralize the drone, thereby guaranteeing the safety of Qatar’s airspace and safeguarding British interests within the region.”
The MOD further indicated that British military personnel maintain their presence in the region, forming part of broader protective strategies.
“Our defense forces are performing a crucial function in safeguarding our citizens, our stakes, and our partners.”
