The United Kingdom has augmented its military footprint at RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus, deploying additional aviation assets, rotorcraft, and reconnaissance capabilities, as regional tensions persist, states the Ministry of Defence.

In a communiqué issued by the MOD, officials disclosed that the United States initiated the use of British installations for protective initiatives, designed to deter Iran’s missile deployment within the area.

The Royal Air Force’s Typhoon and F-35 combat aircraft persist in executing aerial protection missions across Jordan, Qatar, Cyprus, and the broader geographical area, to bolster British strategic aims and coalition troops.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Defence validated that a Merlin rotary-wing aircraft is being dispatched to the area to offer enhanced aerial monitoring capacity. This aerial vehicle will strengthen protective resources already stationed there prior in the year.

This latest brief succeeds a prior declaration detailing further troop movements to the area. Per the Ministry of Defence, Royal Navy Wildcat rotorcraft, fitted with Martlet projectiles, have started reaching Cyprus. These projectiles are engineered to thwart unmanned aerial vehicles, such as kamikaze drones.

Moreover, four more RAF Typhoon planes are slated for arrival in Qatar, thereby augmenting the UK’s aerial military footprint in the area.

The Ministry of Defence stated that throughout recent missions, British F-35 and Typhoon jets, aided by Voyager aerial refuelling planes, carried out protective surveillance flights above Qatar, Jordan, and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
