Charges have been brought against two individuals following an endeavor to access HM Naval Base Clyde, the operational hub for the UK’s nuclear-armed submarine fleet.
Scottish police announced that a 34-year-old Iranian male and a 31-year-old Romanian female have now been apprehended and accused in connection with the occurrence, which transpired on Thursday evening.
“Approximately 5 PM on Thursday, 19 March, 2026, we received notification regarding two individuals attempting to gain entry to HM Naval Base Clyde,” officers stated.
The duo is scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, 23 March.
“An Iranian male, 34, and a Romanian female, 31, have been apprehended and accused in relation to the event,” the communiqué further specified, mentioning that investigations are still in progress.
This development comes after preliminary accounts that two persons had been detained subsequent to their attempt to gain access to the facility. The Royal Navy had earlier verified that the individuals had “fruitlessly endeavored” to breach the location and failed to obtain entry.
HM Naval Base Clyde, situated close to Helensburgh, houses Britain’s Vanguard-class underwater vessels, which bear the nation’s constant maritime nuclear deterrence capability.
