Two individuals have been apprehended subsequent to their endeavor to breach HM Naval Base Clyde, which serves as the domicile for the United Kingdom’s nuclear-equipped submarine flotilla.
The occurrence was initially brought to light by The Sun, reporting that two persons had been held following an attempted intrusion at the facility.
They failed to gain entry.
Police Scotland validated the apprehensions, with their statement reading: “Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March, 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde.”
“A 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman have been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
The Royal Navy indicated that the individuals had “tried without success” to penetrate the facility and did not manage to gain admittance.
A spokesperson added: “As this matter is presently under an ongoing investigation, we shall not offer further comment.”
Situated near Helensburgh, HM Naval Base Clyde accommodates the Royal Navy’s Vanguard-class submarines, which carry Britain’s perpetual at-sea nuclear deterrent.
