A youth residing in Merseyside has received a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order after acknowledging possession of prohibited extremist items, subsequent to an anti-terrorism inquiry.

The seventeen-year-old individual, whose identity is legally protected, confessed culpability for four charges of holding terrorist material as per Section 58 of the Terrorism Legislation. His judgment was delivered at Liverpool Crown Court following an inquiry conducted by Counter Terrorism Policing North West.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that the adolescent had become fixated on the individual responsible for the Southport killings and had delved into online material concerning school massacres and incel topics. Authorities apprehended him in August 2025 following his 999 call, where he cautioned of his intent to execute a widespread knife attack and had amassed an assortment of blades.

At a preliminary session held at Liverpool Crown Court in January, the accused admitted guilt for the four extremism-related transgressions yet refuted an accusation of uttering death threats.

Rob Potts, Assistant Chief Constable for Counter Terrorism Policing North West, stated that the matter mirrored an increasing trend observed by enforcers. “This situation reveals a profoundly unsettling circumstance that has been observed recurrently in the last few years. Here, a youth was evidently swayed by the individual responsible for one of the most dreadful assaults on adolescents ever seen in this nation.”

He further remarked: “It stands as yet another concerning illustration of the effect that encountering vast amounts of extremist, aggressive, and radicalizing content online can exert on impressionable youthful intellects. Regrettably, it has become commonplace for Counter Terrorism Policing to probe adolescents for such grave transgressions.”

Bethan David, who leads the Counter Terrorism Division of the Crown Prosecution Service, commented that the matter underscored the dangers presented by internet-based extremism. “This represented a profoundly unsettling scenario concerning a juvenile who had gravitated towards radical and aggressive doctrines, potentially leading to considerable detriment.”

She further stated that the choice to bring charges had been made following meticulous review of the proof and the conceivable peril to the community.

The adolescent had earlier been directed to the governmental Prevent initiative after educators reported his expressions of admiration for the ISIS militant organization in 2021. A committee then determined his conduct stemmed from autism, not extremist beliefs, and resolved that no current anti-terrorism worries existed.
