A revised acquisition announcement indicates that the Ministry of Defence has scrapped a projected agreement for armaments and components for armoured fighting vehicles.
This demand, initially meant to encompass the provision of spare parts for defense vehicles over a seven-year span, was anticipated to be granted to BAE Systems Global Combat Systems International Ltd through a sole-provider agreement. The value of this deal was estimated at as much as GBP 10.4 million.
Nevertheless, a supplement to the announcement verifies that the acquisition has now been halted subsequent to an assessment. “After assessing the procurement, it was resolved to terminate this undertaking pertaining to this demand,” the amendment declares, further noting that the announcement is released for clarity and does not seek declarations of intent.
The initial demand was publicized in October 2024 through the Defence Sourcing Portal and the Find a Tender service. Babcock Land Defence Limited served as a representative for the MOD in this process. This acquisition came within the purview of the Defence and Security Public Contracts Regulations and had been rationalized as a sole-provider designation due to technical reasons.
As per the previous announcement, BAE Systems GCS International was deemed the sole provider possessing the requisite specialized proficiency, understanding, and background to produce, evaluate, and deliver the demanded parts.
Notwithstanding that justification, the MOD has now chosen not to go forward with the agreement as it currently stands. No alternative acquisition method or updated schedule has been presented.
