An F-15E Strike Eagle belonging to the U.S. Air Force was lost over Iranian territory, and active military recovery operations are currently in progress as of April 3, individuals familiar with the situation informed Air & Space Forces Magazine.
Iran asserted it had brought down an American combat aircraft during the night and subsequently released images allegedly depicting the jet’s remains.
These photographs, disseminated by Iranian media, appear to display debris from an F-15E, though their veracity could not be instantly confirmed. U.S. Central Command and the Pentagon offered no swift answer to an inquiry for official statement.
The current whereabouts of the aircraft’s two-person crew remain undisclosed to the public. Footage on online platforms, purportedly captured in southwestern Iran, shows U.S. aircraft operating at low altitude, potentially for the purpose of undertaking combat search-and-rescue operations.
Should this incident be confirmed, it would represent the initial documented battle casualty of a U.S. piloted aircraft amidst the ongoing hostilities. Previously, on March 19, a U.S. Air Force F-35 pilot sustained fragmentation injuries when their jet was impaired during an operational sortie over Iran, managing an urgent touchdown at an American air base afterward. Furthermore, three USAF F-15Es were destroyed by allied forces over Kuwait on March 2, with all six personnel successfully egressing. In addition, a KC-135 tanker impacted in western Iraq following a presumed airborne collision with another U.S. aircraft, leading to the fatalities of six aviators.
This report is an evolving narrative and will see further revisions.
