DETROIT — The Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons announced that star guard Cade Cunningham will remain sidelined for at least an additional week as he recuperates from a collapsed left lung.
On Thursday, the Pistons issued an update, indicating that Cunningham is scheduled for reassessment in seven days. He is diligently working towards his on-court comeback under the supervision of the team’s medical and performance staff.
Cunningham’s ailment was initially revealed by Detroit on March 19.
For the Pistons, Cunningham has posted averages of 24.5 points and 9.9 assists. Only eight players throughout NBA history have concluded a season with such high scoring and facilitating numbers, and Cunningham would be the initial player to achieve this feat for the Detroit franchise.
Securing the Central Division title, the Pistons also hold a four-game advantage over Boston for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, with only six regular-season contests remaining. They will play host to Minnesota on Thursday evening before commencing their postseason journey on either April 18 or 19, marking the start of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
