Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner characterized the spot-kick awarded to Manchester United during Sunday’s 2-1 loss as an “Old Trafford bonus,” asserting that this decision fundamentally altered the course of the game.
Palace had enjoyed a lead at the break, but the match’s dynamic shifted following a second-half incident involving Maxence Lacroix and Matheus Cunha.
Lacroix was initially sanctioned for restraining the United attacker, with referee Chris Kavanagh escalating the call to a red card after a VAR examination.
Glasner did not contest the likelihood of an infraction but maintained that the contact originated outside the penalty area and, therefore, should not have led to a spot-kick.
“While there are various situations to evaluate, it still appears to be an incorrect ruling,” he stated.
“It isn’t a penalty; perhaps a red card for an infraction outside the box. However, the foul itself commences beyond the penalty area. It feels like a slight Old Trafford bonus.”

Bruno Fernandes successfully converted the penalty to equalize, before Benjamin Sesko netted for the third successive fixture to secure the victory for United.
This outcome represented a sixth triumph in seven games under manager Michael Carrick, propelling the club into third position in the Premier League standings.
Carrick commended his players’ comeback after being behind at half-time.
“For us, it’s truly the most significant aspect to learn from this game,” he remarked. “It marks the first instance we’ve faced that scenario heading into the interval.”
“I felt we were slightly below par to begin with. I believe they started exceptionally strongly, so all credit to them.”
“At half-time, it was about being in that circumstance, how we respond, and showcasing that character and conviction.”
“Football is demanding at times, and this league is tough, so you’re never always going to have things your own way. However, to then recover like we did in the second half and reverse the tide of the match in our favour is undoubtedly the most crucial takeaway for me from today.”
United’s triumph sees them ascend past Aston Villa into third in the Premier League standings, while Palace remain in 14th place.
