Roy Hodgson has returned to managerial duties after being named temporary head coach of second-tier club Bristol City until the conclusion of the current season.
Hodgson, 78, had been out of work since stepping down from his role at Crystal Palace in February 2024 but will now take the place of Gerhard Struber, who was dismissed after merely nine months at the helm.
The decision to sever ties with the Austrian and his assistant Bernd Eibler followed a streak of five league games without a victory, while City also made an exit from the FA Cup with an unfavorable loss to League One strugglers Port Vale.
City CEO Charlie Boss stated: “I wish to express my gratitude to Gerhard and Bernd for their diligent efforts over the past nine months, and we extend our best wishes to them both.
“Roy’s designation is about more than just the results from the upcoming seven matches. Over the remainder of the campaign, he will assist us in establishing the club’s standards and core values that will be essential for future prosperity.
“Roy is a profoundly experienced coach who has attained success and triumphs at the sport’s elite echelon. He will lend his support to me, our players, and our football staff as we strive to realize our full capabilities.
“We are currently in the midst of selecting a sporting director who will have direct influence over the hiring of a new long-term principal manager.”
