Antoine Griezmann is set to journey to the United States amidst the international hiatus, aiming to conclude his transfer to Orlando City.
Having secured the World Cup title with France in 2018, Griezmann has already received a proposed agreement from the Major League Soccer team. He is expected to depart for Orlando within the upcoming days to iron out an arrangement that will facilitate his departure from Atletico Madrid once the current season concludes.
Speculation circulated that Griezmann might join the Florida-based team before the commencement of the fresh MLS season. However, he pledged his commitment to stay with Atletico until the summer period.
The 35-year-old athlete’s departure will create a significant void at Atleti, where he has accumulated nearly 500 matches over two distinct periods. Griezmann stands as the team’s foremost scorer; however, his unwavering commitment may not have been fully rewarded with commensurate achievements, as his collection of silverware only includes a single Spanish Super Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, and the Europa League championship.
He anticipates adding to this collection when Atleti confronts Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final scheduled for April 18.
Griezmann is set to become a part of an Orlando squad that has experienced a challenging commencement to their season, marked by the dismissal of coach Oscar Parejo following his six-year tenure.
Parejo’s termination occurred subsequent to a decisive 5-0 loss against New York City on March 7. His assistant, Martin Perelman, assumed leadership; yet, notwithstanding an initial victory over Montreal, Orlando suffered another 5-0 defeat at the hands of Nashville during the past weekend.
