OpenAI has welcomed Peter Steinberger, the ingenious mind behind the artificial intelligence personal aide presently recognized as OpenClaw.
OpenClaw, initially dubbed Clawdbot and later Moltbot, garnered immense popularity in recent weeks. Its appeal stemmed from its pledge to be the “AI that genuinely performs tasks,” offering capabilities like overseeing your calendar, arranging air travel, or even integrating into an online community populated by other AI assistants. (The initial name alteration occurred after Anthropic indicated legal proceedings due to its resemblance to Claude; the second change happened because Steinberger simply preferred the fresh moniker.)
In an online announcement disclosing his choice to affiliate with OpenAI, the developer from Austria expressed that although he could have transformed OpenClaw into a massive enterprise, such a prospect “lacked appeal for me.”
Steinberger articulated his vision, stating, “My aspiration is to revolutionize the globe, not to establish a vast corporation, and partnering with OpenAI represents the quickest path to make this accessible globally.”
Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, announced on X that Steinberger is slated to spearhead the subsequent iteration of personal agents. Regarding OpenClaw, Altman stated that it will reside within a foundation as a publicly accessible project, which OpenAI intends to maintain ongoing backing for.
