Reddit is phasing out r/all, a content stream on its service that features trending submissions, as part of its “continuous endeavors to streamline Reddit and enhance Home feed personalization.”
Reddit previously provided both r/popular and r/all as methods for discovering prevalent content, with r/all serving as a “less restricted stream” where “overtly sexual posts are screened out, but other well-liked Not Safe for Work (NSFW) submissions are incorporated.” However, in January, Reddit stated it had withdrawn r/all from its mobile applications as part of a “trial,” and that, in a distinct investigation, certain desktop users would not find r/all in their side menu. (The corporation had earlier declared r/all’s discontinuation from its apps in December, but did not characterize the alteration as a trial at that time.) In February, Reddit revealed that the trial was complete and “the choice was made to eliminate r/all.”
According to announcements issued on Thursday, Reddit indicated that “the concluding stages for phasing out r/all are being executed,” and connections to r/all currently lead to your personalized stream. For me, r/all is also not visible on the Reddit side menu on the website or within the Reddit iOS application.
Nevertheless, r/all is not entirely disappearing; should you utilize the classic Reddit interface, you can nonetheless reach the content stream. And despite Reddit CEO Steve Huffman declaring last year that the company was “shifting focus from” r/popular, preferring more highly customized content streams, Reddit affirmed on Thursday that “prevalent material continues to be accessible via r/popular.”
Reddit further revealed that it would be introducing fresh standard privacy configurations for adolescents. Through these modifications, which are scheduled to be implemented in “early April,” individuals younger than 18 cannot possess followers and will possess concealed profiles.
