On Wednesday, the White House disseminated a video showcasing genuine military airstrikes on Iran, presented in a fashion typically observed in Call of Duty highlight reels, and initiated the footage with a segment from Call of Duty. This authentic visual documentation of missiles and other ordnance striking objectives in Iran includes segments previously featured in other Trump administration videos, such as one posted to the U.S. Central Command X account.
As highlighted by The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell, the introductory animation appears to stem from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, specifically when a player triggers a killstreak reward that unleashes a nuclear strike. The administration has consistently utilized video games as a foundation for social media posts aimed at promoting its agenda. In September, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a video compilation of ICE raids, accompanied by the caption “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” and the theme song from the original Pokémon TV show. A DHS post seeking to recruit ICE officers featured a Halo image bearing the text “DESTROY THE FLOOD.”
Activision and Xbox did not promptly respond to an inquiry for a statement.
