Lewis Hamilton has investigated “every possible method” to be present at the Oscars this Sunday following the Chinese Grand Prix, but ultimately concluded it was unfeasible to arrive punctually.

“F1,” which Hamilton jointly produced and made a brief appearance in, has been shortlisted for four Academy Awards, comprising Best Picture and Visual Effects.

The Ferrari racer collaborated intimately on the film with director Joseph Kosinski and principal producer Jerry Bruckheimer, including offering counsel on the screenplay and participating in a driving session with its main actor, Brad Pitt.

Shanghai, where this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix is scheduled to occur, requires a 12.5-hour aerial journey from Los Angeles, but despite the 15-hour temporal disparity, it would be unfeasible for Hamilton to complete the travel punctually.

F1 races are allocated a three-hour slot during which they may occur — providing scope for interruptions due to red flags — but even if Hamilton departed three hours after the predetermined commencement of the race, he would still only land 30 minutes before the ceremony in Hollywood is slated to commence.

“I believe it’s unachievable,” he stated on Thursday. “I’ve examined all avenues to arrive there punctually, but regrettably I am unable to make it.

“However, I’ll video call with Joe and Jerry while they are present, which will be enjoyable.

“I’m immensely gratified, and I would have never thought in a million years that such would be the outcome of the work we’ve been doing throughout recent years.

“It’s remarkable to witness. I’m uncertain if it’s the sport itself, but to observe the extensive global publicity it receives, to perceive the widespread enthusiasm, to see fresh enthusiasts developing keen interest in the sport, reminiscent of how many of us felt during our youth.

“It’s truly wonderful to observe its expansion. Furthermore, I’m still present, still able to participate in it and observe its unfolding.”

Last month, “F1” earned a BAFTA award for Best Sound during a ceremony in London.
