Five Guys is compensating its workforce following an unanticipatedly immense promotional event that exerted considerable strain on its branch teams.
The burger establishment declared it was allocating approximately $1.5 million in incentives to its personnel. This came after a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) special offer on Feb. 17, originally introduced to commemorate its 40th anniversary, rapidly surpassed all forecasts.
“The initiative expanded significantly beyond what we had foreseen, placing our dedicated staff in a challenging predicament,” Five Guys stated in a Feb. 18 announcement.

“We also wish to acknowledge the remarkable individuals employed in our eateries,” the announcement continued. “They responded to the situation with the same resilience and commitment that has distinguished Five Guys for four decades.”

Chief Executive Officer Jerry Murrell informed Fortune that he issued 1,500 incentive payments. He admitted the corporation had misjudged the volume and expressed a desire to commend staff for managing the sudden influx.
“I desired no repercussions after the initial day, as we truly mismanaged the situation. We had no anticipation of receiving such a scale of reaction,” Murrell stated to the publication.
