Defence Minister Luke Pollard stated that the United Kingdom endeavors to broaden its military and industrial collaboration with Norway. This move comes as both nations address security challenges in the Arctic region and along NATO’s northern periphery.
During his trip to Oslo, Pollard indicated that discussions with his Norwegian peers centered on strengthening ongoing military collaboration. He highlighted that British and Norwegian forces routinely “train together” and engage in joint operations for regional deterrence initiatives.
He mentioned that the discussions also concentrated on fortifying industrial connections in parallel with defense cooperation. He characterized this as an effort to intensify partnership in a manner that fosters “quality, well-remunerated employment within the UK”, concurrently boosting job creation in Norway.
This visit exemplifies a wider initiative for greater cohesion among NATO partners in Northern Europe, especially as operations in the Arctic region intensify and the area’s strategic significance expands.
Pollard further stated that the United Kingdom and Norway continue to be crucial allies in aiding Ukraine. Their collaboration encompasses both functional and commercial sectors, forming an element of a broader coalition’s reaction to the ongoing dispute.
Currently in Norway, my objective is to fortify our security ties. Significant headway has been made today.
Given persistent Russian menaces to NATO’s northern periphery and the Arctic, the UK and Norway are jointly exercising, cooperatively procuring, and enhancing their collaboration. 🇬🇧🇳🇴 pic.twitter.com/Tk1kjfwy8w
