CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy — Canada’s preeminent team prevailed over the United States, securing the third-place accolade in women’s curling at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Saturday. This came after they were unexpectedly bested by Sweden in the semifinals.
Rachel Homan’s squad emerged victorious with a 10-7 score, thereby preventing the American women from clinching their initial medal in the contest.
On Sunday, Sweden is set to contend with Switzerland for the top prize.
For the men’s event, Canada’s contentious team—which had faced allegations of impropriety during the preliminary rounds—was scheduled to confront Britain’s entirely Scottish contingent later on Saturday for the championship title. On Friday, Switzerland overcame Norway to claim the third-place honor.
