Tiger Woods declares his intention to compete in the Masters next month, vowing to exert every effort to secure his presence at Augusta.
Woods marked his competitive comeback yesterday evening, representing Jupiter Links against Los Angeles GC in the TGL final; he is now setting his sights on the season’s inaugural major championship, which is set to commence on April 9.
The 50-year-old golf veteran underwent spinal surgery in October and has not participated in an on-course tournament since the 2024 Open at Royal Troon. However, he did compete in TGL last February.
When questioned about the Masters, he responded: “My physique doesn’t recuperate with the same speed it once did when I was 24 or 25. This doesn’t signify a lack of effort on my part. I’ve endured several significant injuries in recent years that I’ve had to battle through, and recovery has demanded considerable time. Nonetheless, I persist in my endeavors. I yearn to compete.
“I have cherished the Masters tournament, and I have adored being a part of it since my nineteenth year; consequently, it has held immense significance for me and my family throughout the years. I intend to be present there irrespective of circumstances, accompanying The Loop [a concise track he conceived] which is being constructed on-site, in addition to attending the champions’ banquet.
“We shall monitor the situation. I will be engaging in practice and golfing at my residence this week, persistently striving to achieve advancement.”
Woods Incapable of Galvanizing TGL Triumph
Woods’ squad failed to recover from a one-point match deficit against LA, ultimately succumbing 9-2 in the second encounter of the best-of-three final series.
However, the 15-time major champion appeared competent, though engaging in indoor golf is a scenario far removed from traversing 18 holes across the undulating landscape of Augusta National.
“My physical condition was satisfactory,” stated Woods.
It proved to be a propitious evening for the English golfers Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose, who, in conjunction with Sahith Theegala, secured the $9 million team award.
Max Homa and Tom Kim comprised the Jupiter Links squad alongside Woods.
