Chelsea is keenly motivated to regain their victorious form in a pivotal encounter for European qualification.

Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea squad travels to Everton, with their manager still holding belief that his team can achieve a successful season conclusion, notwithstanding recent adverse performances in both European tournaments and the Premier League.

The Blues’ participation in the Champions League concluded on Tuesday; Paris Saint-Germain advanced from the last-16 tie with an 8-2 aggregate triumph, securing a 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

This humbling evening followed a disappointing 1-0 home defeat against Newcastle United, which diminished Chelsea’s aspirations of securing a berth in the forthcoming Champions League season.

Chelsea currently holds the sixth position, trailing the top four by three points and Liverpool in fifth by a single point. The fifth spot is almost certainly sufficient for a Champions League entry, despite a challenging week for Premier League clubs in the competition. Furthermore, if Aston Villa secures a top-five finish and wins the Europa League, the sixth position will also suffice.

Consequently, Chelsea is still in a position to fulfill their objectives, with the FA Cup offering Rosenior’s players an opportunity for silverware.

And he maintains a positive outlook ahead of Chelsea’s inaugural visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior

“Most football clubs, most teams, encounter these phases during a season,” Rosenior conveyed at his pre-match press briefing. “What I witnessed, not only today, but yesterday, post-game, mid-game, and in the final moments when we were reduced to 10 players, was not a deficiency of effort, I would argue.

“In a challenging period, I possess a highly resilient group, I have very determined staff, and we acknowledge the necessity to rectify matters. One cannot accurately assess the extent of the detriment until the season’s end. We have eight crucial Premier League fixtures remaining, in addition to a cup competition we aim to conquer. Thus, we are still situated where we can positively influence outcomes.”

Everton, conversely, trails Chelsea by only five points and can realistically entertain their own Champions League aspirations.

The Toffees have secured victories in just five of their 15 home matches during a demanding first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium; their away performances have been instrumental in propelling them up the league standings.

Only Arsenal has accumulated more points on the road than Chelsea’s 27 this term.

Nevertheless, with Chelsea dealing with player injuries and recovering from a bruising defeat, Everton may perceive this fixture as an ideal chance to exhibit a notable upturn in their fortunes at their new home ground.

Squad updates for Everton vs Chelsea

Defenders James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite might return for Everton, but Charly Alcaraz is sidelined due to an undisclosed injury. Seamus Coleman is nursing a knock.

Chelsea is expected to be without Trevoh Chalobah due to an ankle injury sustained in the defeat to PSG. Malo Gusto and Benoit Badiahshile are experiencing illnesses, while goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has undergone surgery for a groin issue. Reece James (hamstring), Jamie Gittens (hamstring), and Levi Colwill (knee) remain unavailable.

Anticipated Starting XIs for Everton vs Chelsea

Everton: Pickford; O’Brien, Keane, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye; Armstrong, Dewsbury-Hall, Ndiaye; Barry.

Chelsea: Sanchez; Acheampong, Sarr, Fofana, Cucurella; Caicedo, Santos; Palmer, Fernandez, Garnacho; Pedro.

Broadcast information for Everton vs Chelsea: Television and digital streams

Everton vs Chelsea commences at 5:30pm UK time. It will be aired on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League. Live streaming is also accessible via Sky Go.

Statistical insights for Everton vs Chelsea

  • Everton has only suffered one loss in their past eight Premier League home fixtures against Chelsea (W5 D2), that being a 1-0 defeat in August 2022.
  • Following their 2-0 victory in December, Chelsea aims to achieve the league double over Everton for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
  • Everton has failed to register a goal in 12 of their last 19 Premier League contests against Chelsea, including each of the previous four consecutive matches. Overall, they have drawn a blank in 28 Premier League encounters with the Blues, a tally surpassed only by their record against Manchester United (29).
  • Subsequent to their 2-0 win against Burnley at the beginning of the month, Everton is striving for consecutive Premier League victories at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time. This marks the latest point in a Premier League campaign they have not secured back-to-back home wins since April 2014-15.
  • Chelsea has endured two losses in their last three Premier League matches (W1), which equals the number of defeats they accumulated in their preceding 13 games (W5 D6). After keeping a clean sheet in their initial league match under Liam Rosenior (2-0 vs Brentford), the Blues have now conceded goals in each of their subsequent eight fixtures.
  • Chelsea’s João Pedro has been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight away appearances across all competitions (7 goals, 1 assist). His total of 11 away goals in all competitions this season represents the highest by a Chelsea player in a single campaign since 2019-20 (Tammy Abraham, 12).

Match Outcome Forecast for Everton vs Chelsea

Everton has endured difficulties at home this season, but Chelsea does not appear to be a team poised to inflict another challenging evening at the Hill Dickinson. A drawn result would likely be more satisfying for the home side.
