The four-time MVP must offer a definitive answer promptly.
The Pittsburgh Steelers anticipate discovering if Aaron Rodgers intends to participate in the 2026 season prior to the NFL Draft scheduled for next month.
Rodgers assisted the Steelers in achieving a 10-7 standing and an AFC North championship in the previous year, despite Pittsburgh enduring a significant loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. The 19-season period of head coach Mike Tomlin concluded after a ninth consecutive year devoid of a playoff victory.
Pittsburgh recruited Rodgers’ previous head coach with the Green Bay Packers, Mike McCarthy, to succeed Tomlin.
However, the 42-year-old four-time MVP has still not reached a conclusion regarding if he will rejoin McCarthy and complete a sophomore season with the Steelers.
However, with the draft only slightly more than three weeks distant, Steelers president Art Rooney II feels assured they will receive a response regarding his intentions shortly.
“I continue to anticipate that,” Rooney informed The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette at the annual league meetings in Arizona. “My expectation is that we will obtain a reply prior to the draft.
“Upon my conversation with him and [general manager] Omar [Khan]’s discussion with him, he informed us he would not require as much time this year as he did previously [to finalize a choice].
“I am not entirely certain of its implication, but I foresee an outcome before the draft.”
The Steelers will be exceptionally eager for definite information regarding Rodgers’ plans, considering that the sole two quarterbacks on their current lineup consist of veteran reserve Mason Rudolph and the 2025 sixth-round draftee Will Howard.
Rodgers inked a single-season agreement with the Steelers during the previous offseason following his departure from the New York Jets. He successfully connected on 65.7 percent of his throws, accumulating 3,322 yards, along with 24 scoring passes and seven turnovers.
