CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Erstwhile Cy Young laureate Trevor Bauer has inked a deal with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League and is slated to take the mound for their inaugural game on April 21, representing the minor league club.
The Ducks revealed the agreement on Thursday for what marks Bauer’s 15th professional campaign. Additionally, Bauer will be “Mic’d Up” for all contests and practice sessions, aiding in content generation for both his personal and the team’s platforms.
Bauer has been endeavoring to rekindle his major league aspirations following the completion of a 194-game ban for breaching MLB’s regulations concerning domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. He was never indicted for an offense in the affair, and private lawsuits against him were resolved.
“I’m eager to contend in front of U.S. fans once more this season,” Bauer declared in a press release. He added, “The Ducks have seen some remarkable athletes grace their roster, and I’m thrilled to contribute to that legacy.”
After being let go by the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2023, the right-handed hurler spent last year playing in Japan.
He initially inked a five-game agreement with the Diablos Rojos of Mexico City last year before consenting to remain for the balance of the campaign. Last September, Bauer was designated the Mexican Baseball League’s top hurler.
