Bumpboxx deeply channels retro vibes with its newest portable stereo, the BB-777, which is designed with strong inspiration from the iconic Sharp GF-777. Acquiring an authentic, functional GF-777 could cost more than $2,000. Moreover, this classic device omits contemporary features such as Bluetooth connectivity or a power-rechargeable cell. Indeed, it’s devoid of a compact disc player.
The BB-777 captures the essence of the GF model, replicating its twin-cassette mechanisms, control arrangement, and the speaker specifications displayed above its woofers. Without question, it’s a stunning apparatus, featuring a retro silver aesthetic and numerous tactile controls. However, it incorporates a swappable battery unit, Bluetooth capability, and a digital display. A regrettable omission, though, is the absence of analog VU meters, a feature We Are Rewind successfully integrated into their Blaster boombox.
This unit boasts six speakers: a pair of Super Woofers, each with its own gain adjustment, along with two coaxial speakers and two horn tweeters. Together, they deliver a robust 270W output, ensuring that loudness will not be an issue. Unless, naturally, your apprehension is that it might be excessively boisterous. Furthermore, the speakers are ported, enhancing their low-frequency reproduction.
Beyond its twin cassette mechanisms, the BB-777 features a slot-fed compact disc player, an AM/FM/shortwave receiver, USB audio compatibility (supporting MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, and ACC formats), an auxiliary input (complete with an RCA adapter), and Bluetooth connectivity. Remarkably, it offers direct recording to a USB flash drive from its tape players, CD unit, or radio tuner, facilitating digital conversion and storage. Essentially, its sole limitation is the inability to stream audio wirelessly via Wi-Fi.
Additionally, twin microphone jacks are situated on the front panel, should you wish to embrace genuine retro style and employ the BB-777 to facilitate a park rap showdown or preside over a breakdancing contest. Furthermore, two integrated microphones are present, though their precise purpose remains somewhat ambiguous to me. Nevertheless, they could prove useful for swiftly capturing a humorous remark from your child onto tape.
A carrying handle is provided for portability, yet for distances exceeding a few meters, utilizing the shoulder strap would likely be preferable, given the BB-777’s substantial weight of 28 pounds. Rather than directly launching into retail, Bumpboxx is initially introducing the BB-777 via Kickstarter. A commitment of $649 will reserve a unit for you, with deliveries anticipated to commence in June. Subsequently, the retail price will be $1,049.
