OpenAI has postponed the introduction of its “adult mode,” a ChatGPT capability intended to grant authenticated adult users entry to mature content, including erotica.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, initially disclosed this function in October, declaring, “In December, as we fully implement age verification and in line with our maxim to ‘treat adult users like adults,’ we will permit additional content, such as erotica for authenticated grown-ups.”
The release had already been previously deferred, moving from December — a time when Altman allegedly dispatched a company-wide memorandum announcing a “code red” situation and urging teams to concentrate on the fundamental ChatGPT functionality — extending into the initial quarter of the current year.
An OpenAI representative has now informed Axios that the company is “postponing the introduction of adult mode” to allow them to “prioritize tasks deemed more crucial for a wider user base at this time,” including efforts on elements such as improving intelligence, refining personality, and enhancing the chatbot’s “proactivity.”
“We still adhere to the tenet of respecting adult users as such, but perfecting the user experience requires additional time,” the representative added.
