Certain TikTok account holders across the U.S. are encountering difficulties accessing the platform, a situation the firm attributes to a hitch concerning an Oracle data facility.
“Content creators might briefly face delays in uploading material as Oracle endeavors to rectify the problem,” TikTok announced via X.
Per submissions from users on Downdetector, the problem has persisted since prior to 9 a.m. ET. Oracle’s statement on X also suggests the disruption commenced at approximately the same time.
Oracle belongs to a consortium of investors holding an 80% stake in the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, an entity established to adhere to a national security regulation which compelled the Chinese corporation ByteDance to relinquish its U.S. TikTok operations or face prohibition within the United States.
Oracle has been supplying cloud functionalities and overseeing user information for TikTok from a time predating the establishment of the TikTok USDS Joint Venture. Subsequent to the transaction, glitches involving Oracle have now led to two significant TikTok service disruptions.
Merely days following the completion of the sale in January, TikTok encountered a comparable service interruption, a situation it blamed on a wintry tempest that affected a key Oracle data facility.
Oracle has not, at this point, ascertained the reason behind Tuesday’s disruption.
