AI persists in holding sway over the risk capital sector, as per a recent Crunchbase analysis.
An unprecedented sum of $189 billion in worldwide venture capital was directed towards nascent companies in February, according to the report. AI-focused new ventures collectively secured $171 billion, constituting 90% of the funds acquired during the previous month. This astonishing figure seems to be merely the commencement.
This record-breaking expenditure surpassed the global VC outlay in January by over threefold and was primarily driven by colossal investment tranches from only three enterprises: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Waymo.
OpenAI’s most recent capital procurement of $110 billion spearheaded the investments. This constituted one of the most substantial private funding rounds ever recorded and appraised the firm at $730 billion. Its competitor, Anthropic, similarly secured a $30 billion Series G, achieving a $380 billion appraisal. Finally, Waymo garnered $16 billion, attaining a valuation of $126 billion. These trio of firms singularly accounted for 83% of the risk capital accumulated in the previous month.
The capital amassed by just OpenAI, Anthropic, and Waymo last month represented one-third of the aggregate $425 billion venture expenditure planned for 2025, according to Crunchbase.
