Nottingham Forest’s custodian, Stefan Ortega, confessed that their taxing Europa League triumph against Midtjylland this evening had rendered the squad “weary” in anticipation of Sunday’s pivotal Premier League encounter with Tottenham.
Despite Forest manager Vitor Pereira rotating nine players in his initial lineup, he ultimately needed to deploy key players like Morgan Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson, and Murillo as the fixture extended to penalties. Forest subsequently secured a 3-0 victory in the shoot-out, with the Danish home side squandering all three of their attempts.
Attention now shifts to the weekend, and a contest with potentially profound consequences in the struggle to avoid demotion.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Ortega remarked: “The mood is one of elation and exhilaration. Yet, everyone feels exhausted too – it was an arduous struggle today. Our performance was admirable, with energy evident from the outset. Despite numerous lineup alterations, the team’s vigour was phenomenal, as was the spirit from our supporters who travelled a considerable distance to witness us. Given our current league standing, this triumph brings such an uplifting sensation.”
The German goalkeeper, Ortega, is confident this success will provide Forest with considerable impetus moving ahead.
He further stated: “While everyone is fatigued, this should offer a significant uplift for the upcoming period. It’s a prime opportunity to secure the three points [on Sunday], surpass our opponents, and maintain our progress.”
Nicolas Dominguez and Ryan Yates found the back of the net for Forest, establishing their dominance, only for Martin Erlic to level the aggregate score at 2-2. The teams remained deadlocked throughout extra-time, with Forest ultimately displaying superior composure in the shoot-out.

Forest Manager Pereira Elated by Triumph
Pereira stated: “I am extremely happy; we demonstrated today our intent to contend, showing we possess skilled and capable athletes. The first half was superb, and even on this challenging playing surface, we performed at an exceptional standard. In the second half, we persisted, even scoring goals that were disallowed. Ultimately, though, we are pleased. Now, we must manage player fatigue for the weekend fixture.”
He added, “I initiated the substitutions not due to any poor performance, but rather to conserve stamina and ensure we are primed for Sunday.”
Similar to Ortega, Pereira considers progressing to the last eight stage against either Porto or Stuttgart an ideal boost before the weekend.
“Achieving victory is crucial – our morale and vigour are elevated when we triumph,” he remarked. “I possess highly capable individuals, and today we displayed all our attributes – collective resolve and fortitude. I am entirely confident in our ability. We will strive for our objectives.”
