WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — On Saturday, the Houston Astros confirmed they had inked seasoned backstop Christian Vázquez to a minor league agreement, extending him an invitation to spring training.
Marking his first rejoining of the Astros since contributing to their 2022 World Series victory, the 35-year-old also secured a championship with the Boston Red Sox back in 2018.
Though Vázquez spent the last three campaigns with the Minnesota Twins, his offensive performance was subpar last season, resulting in a .189 batting average, three home runs, and 14 RBIs. Conversely, his peak performance was in 2019 with the Red Sox, when he recorded a .276 average along with a personal best of 23 homers and 72 runs driven in.
At this moment, he is representing Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.
