Sources informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday that the Dallas Cowboys and Javonte Williams, a forthcoming free agent running back, have finalized a three-year deal. This agreement encompasses $16 million in guaranteed funds.
Previously, Williams had inked a single-year, $3 million agreement with the Cowboys, subsequent to his four-season tenure with the Denver Broncos, who had chosen him in the second round of the 2021 draft. He then delivered his finest professional year, accumulating 1,201 rushing yards, which placed him ninth highest across the NFL. This achievement came despite his absence from the concluding game due to a persistent nerve issue that had troubled him for much of the campaign’s final month.
Approaching his 26th birthday in April, Williams established personal bests in total yardage, carries (252), and rushing scores (11). This performance surpassed his previous maximums of 903 yards (2021), 217 carries (2023), and four touchdowns (2021, ’24) achieved during his tenure with the Broncos. He had been absent for the majority of the 2022 season while in Denver, following severe tears to the ACL and LCL ligaments in his right knee.
The 1,201 yards he gained marked the highest total for a Cowboys rusher since Ezekiel Elliott’s 2019 campaign (1,357 yards). Additionally, he snared 35 receptions, accumulating 137 yards and scoring two touchdowns through the air.
